A Hydrogen Fueling Station Powered By Wind



By producing the wind turbine for powering the fueling station and hydrogen production, a slightly hamlet in Long Island is positioning itself as a bellwether for carbon neutral transportation. The Hempstead N.Y. town on this island upright 121 foot high turbine in the month of December 2011 on Department of Waterways and Conservation of township land for taking benefits of potent Atlantic power and winds and natural and hydrogen gas fueling station, it founded in the year 2009. The turbine can produce up to 180 megawatts of power annually and showcases estimated hydrogen energy and fuel cost savings of $40,000 annually.

For the time being, hydrogen powered car fleet comprises of hydrogen or gasoline powered coach and 2 Toyota FCHV fuel cell Highlander models. Nevertheless, the township is working with other unidentified fuel cell vehicle manufacturing companies for expanding the fleet. It is the only wind powered hydrogen fueling station and production in N.Y. metro region and will make it appealing testing area for nascent hydrogen vehicle market, which is likely to develop by 2015, when manufacturing companies launch production cars to customers. Forming out carbon-neutral and less expensive way for producing plentiful amount of hydrogen will be a key to success of fuel cell cars. Solar hydrogen fueling stations have been launched on both coasts of United States over past couple of years, but haven’t received traction because of low demand and high costs of production.
