Sources of Ocean Energy

Sources of Ocean Energy
Although till now it has not become as popular as fossil fuels, experts feel that very soon ocean energy will become one of the primary options of renewable energy. Several studies are going on to find out the right technology for harnessing energy from the salinity gradients of ocean, ocean currents and ocean winds. Till date, the most advanced technologies used for deriving energy from ocean are the wave power and tidal power. Let us first get informed about wave energy. Power can be drawn from the ocean waves using a number of methods. For using wave energy in electric grids, the frequency of the waves must be converted into 60Hz. The systems used for deriving power from the ocean waves perform the task of converting power from the surface waves. Based on the method used by the system  [...]

Investing in Renewable Energy

Investing in Renewable Energy
Currently, the world is significantly concerned regarding future of natural gas, coal and oil. Being nonrenewable in nature, there is a possibility that the above mentioned natural energy sources become unavailable in the future. This will result in need of alternative renewable energy sources. People can participate in the energy transformation procedures taking place in this world by making investments in the renewable sources of energy like geothermal energy, biogas, biomass, solar energy, wind, micro turbines and fuel cells. As it is obvious that there’ll be a need of renewable energy in the future, people investing in this energy types now will end up making big profits. How to invest in renewable energy? While making investments in renewable energy, you must make  [...]

Solar Power Breakthrough – Goodbye Photovoltaic?

Solar Power Breakthrough – Goodbye Photovoltaic?
Research scientists at the Michigan University have discovered something truly groundbreaking regarding light and its behavior that could not only be the next big thing in solar energy, but also change solar technology forever. Stephen Rand, member of the faculty at the University departments of Physics, Applied Physics, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, as well as William Fisher, a doctoral student in applied physics made the discovery that light, when it is in the right intensity and passing through materials that are not conductors of electricity, glass for instance, can create magnetic fields. The magnetic fields coming from the light waves are of a degree that is hundred million times than was expected before. Under the right conditions, the magnetic field that results  [...]

Google Invests in Massive Power Cable Project in East Coast

Google Invests in Massive Power Cable Project in East Coast
Google has invested in a sizeable project to lay power cable of massive proportions in the undersea region along the East Coast of the United States. The power cable is designed to transport clean power from wind farms located off shore to this most populated region in the country. Google announced that they were involving themselves in this project in Oct last year. The company will have a stake of 37.5 % in the cable. The power cable will start off from South Virginia and will end at North New Jersey. The cable will be laid at the sea floor some ten to twenty mi from the shore. The cable would be able to transport six thousand M w of clean power, sufficient to power  [...]

2050: The year to say goodbye to non-renewable energy sources!

2050: The year to say goodbye to non-renewable energy sources!
I remember the day when I first saw a solar cell and was intrigued by its design. It was like the talk of the whole family then and all of us were dubious regarding renewable energy’s performance. Will it be ever possible to stop the mission of exhausting the non-renewable energy and get on with an energy, whose supply is not finite? We ended our discussion on a hopeful note. The day is not much far off when renewable energy will furnish almost all our energy needs at ease. Recently Australia has already done a research and through its study it has come up to a significant conclusion. It has proposed and also demonstrated how 100% of energy needs in Australia will be met through renewable energy sources by 2020. Now such an appreciable achievement cannot be confined within a single country  [...]
