Plastic menace at the beaches of United Kingdom

Plastic poses a huge problem for environment. Most of it is non biodegradable as a result of which it does not decay naturally and fast. It often makes the land barren or blocks the pipelines, affecting the flow of water. According to a 1999 survey conducted by the Marine Conservation Society or the MCS in the United Kingdom or UK, a majority of the litter collected from the beaches in this country was plastic. The volunteers collected around 1,849 items of litter per kilo meters at about 400 beaches for survey conducted by the Marine Conservation Society and found 63 per cent of this litter to be plastic.
In fact, the MCS said that the garbage found on these 400 beaches was much higher, by about 77 per cent, as compared to the amount collected during its first annual survey in 1994. The [...]
