Cree: LEDs Are not Just More Efficient, They Are Superior

Cree today launched the LED lighting component, which will bring down prices drastically, however the firm has come to realize that only bringing down prices will not make LED lighting mainstream. It stated that sophisticated XT-E White LED offers class leading 16LPW at room temperature. Mr. Paul Scheidt, Product Marketing Manage said that boosting LEDs’ price performance leads to cost reduction of approximately 25% at retail level. He also stated that segment’s focus on purchase price is ill-advised. Rather than lighting firms should focus on set of features the LED lightings provide over other technologies, including longer lifetime, superior controls for dimming, lower energy consumption and more flexible designs.

The omnidirectional LED bulb of GE was launched in the year 2011 for the price of $50, which is now offered for $30. It is one of the new crop of LEDs, engineered with plenty of light dispersal and brightness for all kinds of uses. Even with energy savings and cost cuttings over time, CFL (compact fluorescent lights) and incandescent bulbs have significantly lower price. Most customers talk about features besides good efficiency, and capability to dim LED lights, absence of mercury in LED lights and light quality.

Cree is a segment leading innovator of lighting-class LED lighting, semiconductor solutions and LEDs for power and wireless applications. Its leadership starts with pioneering materials, mainly SiC (silicon carbide), which provide high-efficiency performance for plentiful semiconductor applications.
