Everyone knows that having a swimming pool is more of a luxury than something that would be dubbed as being friendly towards the environment. With all the space, energy, and water that is taken up by a swimming pool, it is difficult to believe but a concept does exist of having a pool that is more environment friendly than the rest. This kind of swimming pool makes the least use of techniques that would be at the least partially helpful to the environment.  It is not always simple to put away all of our luxuries, especially when we have been associated with them for extended periods. Helping the environment is something that everyone has to do and must do. Hence, here are ten ways to make your swimming pool a lot more eco-friendly.

1.     Make changes to those heat settings:

Everybody wants their pool to be comfortable and warm, and seldom would one want to jump into a pool of frigid cold water. However, heating that swimming pool you own is not a simple process, and employs a whole lot of energy. Heating, especially for a pool invites the additional consumption of electricity that could have been used somewhere else.

2.     Cover up as much as possible:

Covering your pool is of prime importance if you want to make the most of helping the environment through your swimming pool.  However, how does covering your swimming pool help the environment, you ask? Well, this rule applies more for those people who live in the dry climate. When you leave your swimming pool uncovered, the rate of evaporation is much more than it would be if you had covered it up in the first place. This in turn leads to a lot of saving on water bills. If you live in a region that is colder, a cover on the pool would ensure that you save a lot of electricity that would otherwise be wasted on heating. In addition to this, a cover keeps your pool clean, and so, leads to more effective use of the pump and filtration apparatus. As if not all this were enough, the use of a cover over a pool would stop UV rays from the sun reacting with the chlorine.

3.     Time clock is of the Essence:

One faulty practice that is practiced the world over is that circulation pumps of most swimming pools and spas are employed for a period more than they are really needed. The issue is the fact that too less a circulation time would mean that your pool remains relatively dirty. One of the best things to do would be to filter the pool completely at least once in every twenty-four hours. Infact, a good pump, if used effectively on a swimming pool would mean that it remains on only for about twelve hours a day. This is why time is of the essence and it would be advisable to have a time clock fixed for your pump, if you do not have one already. This clock is highly advisable as it helps one to reduce electricity costs that are linked to pool filtration. In addition, a pool clock, a helpful gadget that it is, also ensures a longer working life for the pool pump.
